Artist Statement Many ideas full of range came to mind while brainstorming what to do for my first project in this class. None seemed fitting for this assignment, nor did I think I would be able to capture exactly what I wanted to tell the story I had in mind. Originally, I planned on doing a day in my life and photographing portraits of everyone I came across but came to realization I don’t come in contact with that many people on a daily basis so that idea failed. I finally came to realization that I wanted to do an intimate photoshoot with my boyfriend. I wanted to capture the moments when I feel closest to him whether it be sexually, physically, or emotionally. Intimacy is more than sexual desires and relations to me; I would describe it as when you feel close with your significant other and have your wants and needs fulfilled. The shower photos really made us step out of our comfort zone. One exciting aspect of photography is getting to do things you’d never expect yourself to do. I wanted to incorporate more than just us standing there, so we took turns washing each other’s backs and I was able to also capture photos of him kissing my neck. Along with the passionate photos in the shower are more everyday moments photographs like us driving down the road eating goldfish. Although they have two totally different concepts, I still feel intimate with him in both situations with butterflies in my stomach.
