My first creative photography project, Vintage Stills, is a series of narrative self-portraits. I used a variety of my own authentic vintage outfits, jewelry, and furniture to compose settings for my photographs so that the photos look to be taken during a particular era— specifically the 40s, 70s, and 80s. I began my project by scouting out places in my home to take my photographs. I had to be mindful of modern objects, such as electrical outlets, specific decor, and other properties that would take away from the vintage ambiance. I achieved this through physically composing my set, removing said properties from the frame, as well as physical adjustments and cropping during and after production. In addition, I also had to be conscious of light and light sources. I always made sure to start shooting at around 11am, when the sun was the brightest in my home. I was able to experiment with different amounts of light and types of shadows.
